Maria Carmichael

Maria Carmichael is a mainly commission-based artist out of Bowling Green, Kentucky. She comes from a lineage of poets, printmakers, painters and graphic artists who have inspired her to create from an early age and attributes much of her choice in surrealistic subject matter to her Spanish heritage; Spain having been a major player in the avant-garde movement of surrealism that followed World War 1. She creates hallucinatory and transcendental works that aim to instill a dreamlike effect in viewers as well as provoke a sense of excitement through the use of energetic colors.
